The running order of the weekend is pretty much confirmed, but, you know how it is, there’s always a few things that are subject to change!
As it stands, the opening ceremony will begin at midday on Saturday and our Survivors will lead us off with the opening lap. Our compere will then invite all teams to take to the track in their team outfits and carrying their team banners to get the Relay going. The Survivors Lunch will take place at 1pm, just as our first themed lap “Sun Smart” gets started.
We then have a line-dancing group coming along for 2pm so don those cowboy hats and cowboy boots for the Stets & Spurs lap. 3pm sees the Bras & Boxers lap, always eagerly awaited! It doesn’t have to be (and usually isn’t!) the girls dressed in the bras – the important thing is to get across the “check yourself” message. The sandcastle judging competition will take place by 4pm and the Depict a Book lap will commence at 4pm; can’t wait to see what your imaginations have come up with! At 5pm we have the Healthy Living lap and kids will be invited to make an alien from 5 pieces of fruit and veg. As the evening gets going, the Back to Front lap starts at 6pm and then our Disco / 1980s lap starts at 8pm whilst we’re entertained by the wonderful Abba-Riginal.
Things will then quieten down for the Candle of Hope ceremony around 9.30pm and then we will be gradually enlivened again by the sounds of Streetlife for the Glow in the Dark lap at 10pm. The Pyjamas & Teddies lap will start at 10.30pm and our brilliant fire-eaters Pyromagic will then take to the pitch at 11pm.
The atmosphere will again quieten down overnight (apart from those of you wearing the silent disco headphones!) as we walk through the night, waiting for the sun to come up again and warm us up! The Bad Hair Day lap gets us started at 7am and then there’s a Zumba session at 8am – not for the feint hearted or those who need a few coffees to wake them up in the morning! 9am will then see the creative glory of your Recycled Outfits before the Olympic-themed Round the World in 60 Minutes lap. Get those energy levels up and take part in our activities (more sports day than Olympic!) with some traditional games, such as the egg & spoon race, 3-legged race and welly wanging etc.
The closing ceremony will then start around 11am with the Grand Prize draw taking place at 11.15am. The Spirit of Relay awards will be handed out to our teams and don’t forget your bubbles as we draw things to a close around 11.45am by blowing loads of bubbles and doing the conga.
And then its time to go home and put your feet up!
